Situation Report re: Effects of Wind and Rain 12/21/12 0700

Southern New Jersey: 


Theten Southern Counties are experiencing a moderate to heavy rain with windssteady at 20 mph and occasional gusts up to 40-50 mph. Most of the heavy precipitation has started to diminish and is expected to end by noon. No significant weather-related traffic concerns are reported.

Power outages reported to Atlantic Electric and road closures are listed below:

Atlantic: 1,196 report no power, no road closures

Burlington: 320 no power, no road closures

Camden: 346 no power, Brooklawn EastCircle on Rt130 has high water

CapeMay: 559 no power, no road closures

Cumberland: 6,853 no power, minor flooding, noroad closures

Gloucester: 1,648 no power, Rt. 130 Logan Twp.flooding, Crown Pt. road flooding

Mercer: No issues

Monmouth: No issues

Ocean: 99 no power, minor coastal flooding

Salem: 5,258 no power, significant riverflooding, still determining which roads need to be closed.


North Region Summary

The 11 Northern Region counties are experiencing some moderate rain with some steady winds between  25 to 35 mph with wind gusts up to 60 mph.  There is also fog in the area that will limit visibility to approximately 4 miles around Newark Airport.  Between 1 and 2 inches of rain is expected to fall throughout the area.  The weather will continue to impact the morning commute and should start to exit the area around 10am and should end around noon.  Traffic is heavy throughout the area at this time.

The following power outages are being reported:

Bergen – PSEG reports between 2000-5000 customers

Essex – PSGE reports 10,000 customers and JCPL reports 65

Hudson – PSGE reports less than 500 customers

Hunterdon – PSGE reports less than 500 customers and JCPL reports 857

Middlesex – PSEG reports less than 500 customers and JCPL reports 918

Morris – JCPL reports 5,351

Passaic – PSEG reports between 500 and 2000 customers and JCPL 638

Somerset – PSEG reports less than 500 and JCPL 207

Sussex – JCPL reports 1,289

Union – PSEG reports less than 500 and JCPL reports 493

Warren – JCPL 69
